Central and South America by yacht

In short

Nature first: whales in the Sea of Cortez, Belize's reef, Costa Rica's rainforest, the Galápagos and Patagonia. Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica are best from December to May; the Galápagos all year. It suits wildlife lovers and divers.

Central and South America are for nature first. There are whales in the Sea of Cortez, the reef and atolls of Belize, rainforest to the shore in Costa Rica, the animals of the Galápagos and, far south, the fjords of Patagonia. Most of these coasts have few yachts and long distances. A charter here is planned around the season and the wildlife more than around harbours.

Where to go

  • Mexico: the Sea of Cortez and Baja. Desert islands, sea lions, whale sharks and whales in winter and spring, from La Paz, Loreto and Los Cabos.
  • Belize. The barrier reef, the cayes, and three atolls including the Blue Hole. Shallow and quiet.
  • Costa Rica. The Pacific coast from Papagayo to the Osa: rainforest, turtles, surf and whales.
  • The Galápagos. A national park almost everywhere, sailed on licensed yachts with a naturalist guide.
  • Panama (page to follow). The Pearl Islands and Coiba on the Pacific side, and San Blas on the Caribbean side.
  • Chile and Patagonia (page to follow). Fjords, glaciers and very few other boats, for an expedition yacht in the southern summer.
  • Brazil (page to follow). The islands of Angra dos Reis and Paraty, south of Rio.
  • Mexico's Caribbean coast (page to follow). Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and the Riviera Maya.

Most yachts here are based locally or come for a season, and we look across the market for every enquiry. The yachts on this site are a selection, not the limit of what we arrange: ask about any yacht, of any size.
